In the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 Player Auction in Mumbai, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) strategically fortified their squad with seven key acquisitions, showcasing meticulous planning by their proficient backroom staff.
Head coach Luke Williams, assistant head coach, and head of scouting Malolan Rangarajan, along with skipper Smriti Mandhana, contributed crucial tactical inputs to shape the team.

Mandhana expressed satisfaction with the auction, highlighting that planning began immediately after the previous season. The team prioritized experienced bowlers attuned to Indian conditions. Their noteworthy picks included spinner Ekta Bisht, the first Indian woman to achieve a T20 International hat-trick, England's pace bowler Kate Cross, and Indian all-rounder Simran Bahadur.
In line with their commitment to nurturing local talent, RCB added Bengaluru's promising all-rounder Shubha Satheesh and Women's Asia Cup-winner S Meghana to the squad. They also secured Australian spin all-rounders Georgia Wareham and Sophie Molineux to complete the 18-member roster.
RCB's Vice President and Head, Rajesh V Menon, emphasized the team-building process, stating that there are no shortcuts, and each season contributes to building the foundation. The objective was to apply lessons from the previous year, address gaps, and construct a squad with outstanding balance and flexibility for various playing conditions.
RCB's Play Bold philosophy was evident in their strategy, focusing not only on strong bowling options but also on skillful batsmen. Mandhana highlighted the importance of a formidable bowling side in T20s and praised the addition of overseas pacers like Kate Cross, emphasizing their ability to complement Renuka Singh effectively.
Assistant head coach and head of scouting, Malolan, underscored RCB's approach to strengthen their Indian domestic core, combining experienced players like Sophie Devine, Ellyse Perry, and Heather Knight with emerging talents.
