WPL 2024: Four RCB Players to Watch Out in Season 2

Royal Challengers Bangalore Women's team have redemption in mind as the second season of the Women's Premier League (WPL) starts on Friday (February 23).

Despite having a decent squad, the RCB women had a torrid inaugural season where they finished 4th out of five teams and failed to make it to the playoffs.

WPL Season 2: Four RCB Players to Keep an Eye On

As the new season approaches, RCB captain and the players have vowed to showcase a superior version and go all the way to win the title. They have made a few tweaks in the squad and have kept the core players for the new season.

Here are four RCB Women players to keep an eye on in the brand-new season-

Renuka Singh

Despite being the key bowler in the RCB setup, Renuka Singh Thakur had an underwhelming outing last season in the tournament. She managed only one wicket across six matches and was one of the worst performers for RCB.

As the new season arrives, there will be a lot of eyes scrutinizing her performance with the ball. The 28-year-old is known for her wicket-taking ability and poise up front, and RCB need that desperately. The Shimla-born player is known for her grit and determination, and we can only hope she will thrive under pressure.

Ellyse Perry

Australian star Ellyse Perry was the sole performer in the RCB setup last year. She scored 253 runs and picked up 4 wickets in eight matches and was by far the lone warrior for them.

In this WPL season, the Australian may have te responsibility to replicate the same if not exceed it. The 33-year-old is a star player and is a proven stalwart of the game, and the onus will be on her to match the expectations. Perry, with her middle-order batting and medium-pace bowling, is definitely going to be a central figure of this RCB outfit.

Shreyanka Patil

Shreyanka Patil has already impressed many with her all-round ability last season. The 21-year-old scored 62 runs with the bat and picked up six wickets with the ball.

Although still a youngster, Patil will have to carry bigger load for her team in this WPL season. She has made her India debut and is expected to shine in this upcoming season. With the second half of the season in Delhi, her off-break bowling may prove crucial for RCB and eyes will be on the youngster.

Smriti Mandhana

RCB's captain supremo had an underwhelming WPL 2023 season. The classy batter failed to balance her batting act with captaincy and could only manage 149 runs in eight matches.

But Mandhana has already admitted her learnings and she is determined to not repeat the same mistakes. With enhanced experience, the RCB captain is expected to lead the team in the WPL 2024 and play a key part in their upsurge. Mandhana's batting at the top is going to be key as form with the bat can do wonders for her captaincy as well.

It is to be seen how the 27-year-old manages the pressure, but the lion's share of focus will be on her as RCB look to make amends.
