Now, as the second season is fast approaching, franchises begin to prepare for the same, starting with the auction, where they get a chance to finalize their squad. But before that they are allowed to retain or let go their players from last season.

While Delhi Capitals retained 15 players, the UP Warriorz have retained 13 players from their inaugural season squad ahead of the WPL Auction 2024, which is likely to take place before the second season starts in the March window.

For DC, wicketkeeper-batter Aparna Mondal, opener Jasia Akhter, and American fast-bowling all-rounder Tara Norris have been released from the squad ahead of the auction.

The champions Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, retained 17 players, but let go of Heather Graham, Sonam Yadav, Dhara Gujjar and Neelam Bisht, who were part of their title-winning campaign.

Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Giants, who had disappointing campaigns, have unsurprising retained only 11 and 8 players respectively.

The window for the five franchises to retain players for the TATA Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 season ended on October 15. While 60 players, including 21 overseas cricketers, were retained across five franchises, 29 players were released from their existing squads.
