As the WPL 2025 Auction approaches, all five franchises — Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals (DC), Gujarat Giants (GG), and UP Warriorz (UPW) — have finalised their retained and released players list.
A month after the retention announcement, fans eagerly await the auction scheduled to take place in five days, where teams will look to fill gaps and strengthen their squads.

The defending champions, RCB, have stuck with the core of their title-winning squad, retaining stars like Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, and Sophie Devine. Nadine de Klerk and Heather Knight are notable releases, while RCB acquired Danni Wyatt in a trade from UP Warriorz for ₹30 lakh. However, the team will not be able to pick any overseas players as their slots are full.
Mumbai, known for its consistency, has retained most of its core, including captain Harmanpreet Kaur and star all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt. However, they released Issy Wong, Priyanka Bala, and a few others. Wong, in particular, could draw significant attention in the auction due to her pace.

Finalists in the last two seasons, DC retained their core stars like Meg Lanning and Jemimah Rodrigues while releasing players like Laura Harris and Poonam Yadav. With ₹2.5 crore left, DC could look for impactful domestic and overseas additions.
Gujarat made significant cuts, letting go of Indian all-rounder Sneh Rana and New Zealand’s Lea Tahuhu, among others. With ₹4.4 crore, the Giants have the largest remaining purse, giving them flexibility in the auction.
UPW released several players, including Lauren Bell and Danni Wyatt, the latter being traded to RCB. With ₹3.9 crore, the franchise could be on the lookout for impactful all-rounders or a dynamic batter.
With five days to go, teams are strategising to perfect their squads for WPL 2025. Fans can expect fierce bidding wars, especially for standout domestic and overseas stars left out of the retention.
