WPL 2025: In a thrilling contest at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, UP Warriorz edged past Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the first-ever Super Over in Women's Premier League (WPL) history. The dramatic encounter saw Sophie Ecclestone emerge as the match-winner, guiding her team to a narrow three-run victory.
Chasing 181 for victory, UP Warriorz found themselves in trouble early on despite a brisk start from Kiran Navgire and Vrinda Dinesh. Both openers fell within the powerplay, allowing RCB to take control.

Sneh Rana, on her debut for RCB, dismantled the middle order with crucial breakthroughs, sending back Deepti Sharma and Tahlia McGrath. The Warriorz looked out of the contest at 72/4 after eight overs.
However, the ever-reliable Sophie Ecclestone turned the game around. Needing 18 off the final over, she hammered Renuka Singh for two sixes and a boundary, bringing the equation down to two runs off the last ball. In an unfortunate mix-up, Ecclestone was run out while attempting a second run, pushing the game into a Super Over.
RCB, after being put in to bat earlier, had relied heavily on Ellyse Perry, who delivered a masterclass with the bat. Perry remained unbeaten on 90, anchoring the innings as wickets tumbled around her. Despite a slow start from Smriti Mandhana and Danni Wyatt-Hodge, a 94-run stand between Perry and Wyatt-Hodge propelled RCB to a competitive total. However, their late collapse cost them valuable runs.
In the Super Over, UP Warriorz batted first, with Ecclestone continuing her heroics. She smashed 15 runs off Renuka Singh, setting a target of 16 for RCB. Tasked with defending the total, Ecclestone took charge with the ball, delivering a tight over that stifled RCB's chase. Despite the presence of power-hitters Richa Ghosh and Mandhana, RCB fell three runs short, handing UP Warriorz a historic win.
The loss comes as a setback for the defending champions, who struggled to capitalize on key moments. Meanwhile, UP Warriorz secured their second victory of the season, with Ecclestone proving why she is one of the best in the game. This Super Over thriller has set the stage for more high-octane encounters in WPL 2025.
