Richa Ghosh and Ellyse Perry starred as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) opened the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 campaign with a 6-wicket win over Gujarat Giants on a record-breaking night at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.
Set a mammoth target of 202, RCB rode on a brisk knock from Perry to start off their record-breaking chase before Richa and Kanika Ahuja completed the highest successful chase in WPL history with 9 balls to spare on Friday (February 14).

RCB suffered an early setback in their run-chase as openers Smriti Mandhana (9) and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge (4) fell in the same over to GG skipper Ashleigh Gardner, leaving the defending champions reeling at 14/2 in 2 overs.
Veteran Perry (57 off 34 balls) and youngster Raghvi Bist (25 off 27 balls) steadied ship for RCB with an 86-run stand before Richa (64* off 27 balls) and Kanika (30* off 13 balls) put on a match-winning unbeaten 93-run partnership from 37 balls to take RCB home for the highest successful chase.
Earlier in the match, Ash Gardner (79* off 37 balls) and Beth Mooney (56 off 42 balls) smashed contrasting fifties to take Gujarat Giants to 201/5 in their allotted 20 overs. RCB also getting past 200, saw the record for highest aggregate broken on Friday (February 14) night.
Gardner smashed 8 maximums, while Richa hit four sixes in her innings as the match nearly broke the record for most sixes in a single WPL match with 16 sixes, but that record still stands with RCB from their encounter against Delhi Capitals last season.
