With the 2025 Women's Premier League (WPL) auction expected in early December, all five franchises have announced their retained and released players lists, setting the stage for a competitive bidding process.
Each team has a salary cap of INR 15 crore, and varying amounts remain in their purses, reflecting strategic choices as they look to fill remaining slots and bolster their squads for the upcoming season.

Gujarat Giants (GT), who have struggled in both previous WPL editions, enter this auction with the largest purse: INR 4.4 crore. The Giants made bold moves by releasing seasoned players, including Sneh Rana.
Rana, who captained the team in 2023 after Beth Mooney's injury, and 2024 T20 World Cup winner Lea Tahuhu. With four open slots, including two for overseas players, Gujarat appears ready for an overhaul to improve their standings in the upcoming season.
The UP Warriorz (UPW), with INR 3.9 crore in their purse, have three slots remaining, one of which is for an overseas player. Having reached the playoffs in 2023 but underperformed in 2024, the team released Lauren Bell, Parshavi Chopra, and Laxmi Yadav, aiming to bring in fresh talent to strengthen their lineup.
Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have retained a strong core but parted ways with notable players like Heather Knight, who missed the 2024 season due to international duty, and Nadine de Klerk.
Klerk, who served as Knight's replacement. With a budget of INR 3.25 crore and four open slots (all domestic), RCB is expected to make selective additions to maintain their championship-winning edge.
The Mumbai Indians (MI), title winners in 2023, released Issy Wong, who was instrumental in their inaugural season success. Mumbai now has INR 2.65 crore in their budget with four open slots, one of which is overseas, allowing room to refine their already star-studded roster led by Harmanpreet Kaur.
Delhi Capitals (DC), twice runners-up, released Indian leg-spinner Poonam Yadav and Australian power-hitter Laura Harris. With INR 2.5 crore, DC has the smallest remaining purse, but their four open slots (including one overseas) allow them to bring in fresh faces to push for their first WPL title.
This WPL season is expected to rather have an earlier start than later, potentially in February. This year's auction may also be the final one before a potential mega auction in 2026, setting a new phase in the league's evolution.
