WPL 2025 Retention: Get Full Released Players List of DC, GT, MI, RCB, and UPW

As the 2025 season of the Women's Premier League (WPL) approaches, franchises are gearing up by announcing their retained and released players, signaling early moves for next season's auction. All five teams have opted to keep the majority of their core squads intact, with each franchise retaining at least 12 players from their 2024 lineup.

While several new talents and strategic acquisitions are expected, the release of a total of 23 players has set the stage for a competitive auction expected in early December. The purse for this year has also been increased from INR 13.5 crore to INR 15 crore, giving teams additional financial flexibility.

Key Releases and Current Team Structure

Among the prominent names released, Sneh Rana, Heather Knight, and Lea Tahuhu headline the list, as franchises make adjustments to optimize their lineups -

The Gujarat Giants, with the largest remaining purse of INR 4.4 crore, released Rana, who led the team in the inaugural season after Beth Mooney's injury, alongside Bryce, Tahuhu, and a few others. This team, which finished at the bottom of the standings in both seasons, appears poised for major changes in the upcoming auction.

The UP Warriorz, who made it to the playoffs in 2023 but had a less successful 2024 season, have a strong purse of INR 3.9 crore and are looking to make strategic moves. They released players such as Lauren Bell, Parshavi Chopra, and Laxmi Yadav, focusing on an overhaul that could strengthen their core.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the defending champions, have retained their leadership structure and core players, parting ways with Knight, who missed 2024 due to international duty, and South African all-rounder Nadine de Klerk. With INR 3.25 crore left, they are in a comfortable position to make impactful additions.

The Delhi Capitals, finalists in both WPL seasons, released Indian leg-spinner Poonam Yadav and power-hitter Laura Harris. This move opens up options for fresh talent that could give them the edge in breaking their runner-up streak.

Mumbai Indians have retained most of their international stars, releasing only a few players, including Issy Wong. Their INR 2.65 crore purse will support tactical upgrades to maintain their competitive edge.
