WPL 2025: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are making a strong statement early in their Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 campaign. Despite pre-tournament concerns over injuries to key players, the defending champions have hit the ground running, showing their depth and determination.
Following a thrilling chase of 202 against Gujarat Giants in their season opener, RCB continued their winning momentum with a commanding eight-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals at the Kotambi Stadium on February 17. The Smriti Mandhana-led side comfortably chased down a target of 142, climbing to the top of the points table with two wins in as many matches.

Skipper Smriti Mandhana was the star of the show, delivering a stunning knock of 81 off just 47 balls. After missing out on the opening game, Mandhana made up for it with a dominant display, smashing 10 fours and three sixes. She took the attack to Delhi's bowlers from the outset, never allowing them to settle.
Mandhana's knock was a mix of elegance and aggression, as she punished anything loose while rotating the strike efficiently. Her innings ended in the 16th over when she attempted a scoop shot off Shikha Pandey, departing with RCB needing just eight runs to win.
Danielle Wyatt provided excellent support at the top of the order, scoring a quickfire 42 off 33 balls. The pair put on a blistering 107-run opening stand in just 65 deliveries, setting the foundation for a comfortable chase.
Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosh completed the job with ease, with Richa finishing things off in style by launching a massive six in the 17th over. The youngster, who had already played a match-winning knock in the previous game, once again showed her prowess in finishing games.
The victory was built on an excellent performance with the ball. RCB's bowling attack, which had conceded over 200 runs in their first game, showed vast improvement. The return of veteran spinner Ekta Bisht brought much-needed balance to the lineup, while pacer Renuka Singh Thakur led the charge with a fiery spell.
Renuka and Georgia Wareham both claimed three wickets each, while Ekta Bisht and Kim Garth picked up two apiece. Their combined effort restricted a strong Delhi Capitals batting lineup to just 141. Despite the presence of power-hitters like Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma, Delhi struggled to build momentum, with RCB's bowlers maintaining discipline throughout the innings.
The late-evening dew at Kotambi Stadium made defending totals challenging, and RCB took full advantage after winning the toss. Mandhana's decision to field first paid off as her bowlers did not allow Delhi to post a competitive score.
Delhi Capitals made significant changes to their playing XI, bringing in Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen while leaving out Player of the Match from their opening game, Nikki Prasad, along with Alice Capsey. However, these changes did not work in their favor, as both Kapp and Jonassen failed to make a notable impact.
On the other hand, RCB's decision to include Ekta Bisht in place of Prema Rawat proved to be a masterstroke. At 39, Bisht demonstrated her experience and skill, troubling the Delhi batters with her variations.
With two convincing wins under their belt, RCB will now shift their focus to their next challenge against Mumbai Indians on February 21. The match will mark their return to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where they will have the backing of their home crowd.
With momentum on their side and their key players firing, RCB will be aiming for a third consecutive victory to further strengthen their position in the tournament.
