WPL 2026 Auction Purse: How much Money teams have before Mega Auction?

The Women's Premier League (WPL) auction purse for each team in 2026 is set at ₹15 crore, providing franchises ample budget to strategize and build competitive teams for the season.

This purse forms the core capital for squads which usually consist of 15-18 players, including capped and uncapped Indian players as well as overseas stars. Retention of key players prior to the auction has a significant impact on the remaining purse each team has to bid for new talent.

Teams were allowed to retain up to five players with a maximum of three capped Indian players and two overseas players. This retention policy shapes each franchise's auction strategy, balancing between core strength and budget flexibility.

Delhi Capitals retained five players, opening with Indian talents Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma, alongside overseas all-rounders Marizanne Kapp and Annabel Sutherland, and uncapped player Niki Prasad. This strategic retention left them with ₹5.75 crore in auction purse. Notably, Delhi Capitals released former captain Meg Lanning, indicating a rebuild focus.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru kept four key players: Indian stars Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh, Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry, and the young talent Shreyanka Patil, holding back ₹6.15 crore for the auction. Mumbai Indians also retained a full quota of five players, including captain Harmanpreet Kaur alongside England's Nat Sciver-Brunt, who was retained at a higher price, plus youngsters Hayley Matthews, Amanjot Kaur, and G Kamalini, leaving them ₹5.7 crore for auction spends.

Gujarat Giants retained their two overseas slots with Australian duo Ashleigh Gardner and Beth Mooney, indicating a more open purse with ₹9 crore left for the auction. UP Warriorz surprised many by retaining just one uncapped player, Shweta Sehrawat, holding onto ₹14.5 crore, the highest remaining purse among teams. They released several big names including Deepti Sharma and Sophie Ecclestone to revamp their squad.
