The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is preparing for its fifth season, with the 2027 player auction scheduled to take place in Kochi, Kerala, on October 28, 2026.

The auction will give the five franchises an opportunity to complete and strengthen their squads before the tournament begins on January 14, 2027. The season is scheduled to run until February 7, 2027. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed the auction date and venue, and the auction is scheduled to begin at 5:30 PM IST.

A total of 146 players have been shortlisted for the auction, including 119 Indian players and 27 overseas players. The available pool comprises 22 capped Indian players, 97 uncapped Indian players, 14 capped overseas players and 13 uncapped overseas players, including six players from Associate Nations.

Franchises will compete for 27 vacant squad positions: 20 for Indian players and seven for overseas players. England batter Sophia Dunkley and Australia all-rounder Sophie Molineux have registered at the highest base price of ₹50 lakh. G. Kamalini, Kiran Navgire, Heather Graham and Jess Jonassen are among those in the ₹40 lakh bracket.

Launched in 2023 by the BCCI, the WPL has quickly become a major competition in women’s franchise cricket, bringing leading Indian and international players together while creating a platform for emerging talent. Five teams compete in the league: Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and UP Warriorz.

Mumbai Indians won the inaugural title in 2023 and again in 2025, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru lifted the trophy in 2024 and 2026. Delhi Capitals have been runners-up in each of the first four finals. The 2027 season will continue the competition’s five-team format, with franchises aiming to build squads capable of challenging for the title.
