
The Women's Premier League (WPL) is set to commence on March 4 in India.
Ahead of the inaugural season, the WPL Auction is taking place as the five franchises shape up their squad ahead of the tournament.
There have been some massive signings in the auction, with Indian batter Smriti Mandhana becoming the most expensive buy with her INR 3.4 crore move to Royal Challengers Bangalore.
IPL has become the breeding ground of Indian talents as we have seen some unearthed prodigies taking centre stage and making a name for themselves throughout the years. And with the WPL now, the women's cricket is set to be a massive push. The whole dynamic of the women's game is set to transform as players across the country will get much more exposure in the coming years.
The uncapped players so far have had a decent outing as some of the young colts that won the U19 T20 World Cup in South Africa recently have found suitors in the auction. Here are some of the biggest uncapped buys in the WPL auction-
Sold For: INR 50 Lakh
Tanuja Kanwar was a massive buy by the Gujarat Giants. The Shimla-born all-rounder went fivefold of her base price and was sold to the Giants for a whopping INR 50 Lakh.
Tanuja is a right-handed batter who bowls left-arm fast-medium. The 25-year-old is an unknown commodity and would be a surprising finding if she does justice to her price tag.
Sold For: INR 45 Lakh
Australian batter Laura Harris is the most expensive uncapped overseas player in the auction. The 32-year-old was sold to Delhi Capitals for INR 45 Lakh. She plays for Brisbane Heat Women's Team in the WBBL.
Sold For: INR 35 Lakh
Kanika Ahuja was sold to RCB for INR 35 Lakhs. The 22-year-old hails from Punjab and has been a serial performer in the state-based tournaments for Patiala Women's Team. She is an all-rounder and is known for her hard-hitting prowess.
Sold For: INR 40 Lakh
Shweta Sehrawat has bagged the biggest deal among uncapped players so far. The teenage batter was instrumental in India's title-winning campaign in South Africa, scoring 297 runs in the tournament, which was the highest by a player. She will be getting a chance to rub her shoulders with some of the biggest names in the UP Warriorz squad. With the likes of Sophie Ecclestone, Alyssa Healy and Tahlia McGrath in the UP squad, Sehrawat won't have any shortage of brains to learn the game from.
Sold For: INR 10 Lakh
India's premier spinner in the U19 T20 World Cup Parshavi Chopra has also bagged a deal to UP Warriorz. She was the highest wicket taker for India with 11 wickets in the tournament. The Uttar Pradesh-born player will now be donning the jersey of the Lucknow-based franchise.
Sold For: INR 35 Lakh
Ashwani Kumari was a late scalp for Gujarat Giants and the all-rounder was sold for 35 Lakhs. The Jharkhand player is mainly known for her batting but can roll her hands for some medium pace bowling as well.
Sold For: INR 10 Lakh
Yashasri will be another addition to UP Warriorz's crop of young and budding talents. The teenager played one match in the U19 T20 World Cup and will be joining with a few of her mates in the Warriorz setup. She picked up 4 wickets in the South Africa series prior to the World Cup.
Sold For: INR 25 Lakh
Titas Sadhu was one of the star performers for India in the U19 T20 World Cup. The 18-year-old youngster was outstanding for India in the tournament and picked up 6 wickets.

Her excellent spell of 6/2 in four overs in the final earned her the player of the match award. The Bengal-born teenager will be under the guidance of Sourav Ganguly, who is the director of cricket in DC.
Sold For: INR 10 Lakh
Hurley Gala became the youngest player to be bought in the WPL auction. The 16-year-old has a plethora of talent and was a big coup for Gujarat Giants, who made some late flurry Indian signings on the day.
