Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning have created a Women's Premier League record after they stitched the first 100+ partnership in the tournament's history.
In the second match of the WPL 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore are taking on Delhi Capitals. Batting first, DC got a blistering start courtesy of their openers - Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning.
Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma took on the RCB bowlers and decimated them. The onslaught started in the second over when Meg Lanning hit three consecutive boundaries of Megan Schutt, and the rampage continued. The pair added 57 runs in the powerplay and even after the field restriction was lifted, the carnage continued.
Shafali Verma dominated Asha Shobana on the 9th over as she scored 22 runs off that. Verma hit two sixes and two fours in that over. They brought the century stand within 10 overs and ended up stitching a mammoth partnership of 162 runs for the first wicket.
This was the first-ever century partnership for any wicket in a WPL match, and it will need some batting to overtake their record. There was a boundary or six in each over of their partnership except the very first over of the match.

The partnership was broken in the 15th over as Heather Knight picked up both batters. Meg Lanning was cleaned up but the DC captain departed only after scoring 72 runs off 43 balls. Two balls later, Shafali Verma also got out after a blistering knock of 84 runs in just 45 balls. Lanning's inning had 14 boundaries, while Shafali hit 10 fours and 4 gigantic sixes.
Delhi Capitals also registered the first century partnership in the IPL 2008. Known as Delhi Daredevils back then, Delhi chased down a target of 130 runs against Rajasthan Royals. For the Daredevils, Gautam Gambhir (58* off 46 balls) and Shikhar Dhawan (52* off 41 balls) added 112 runs for the second wicket, which was the first-ever century stand for any wicket in the IPL.
