Wriddhiman Saha is the best wicketkeeper in India: Virat Kohli

Kolkata, Oct 3: Indian Test captain Virat Kohli is always known to back his players. And today (October 3), he heaped praise on Wriddhiman Saha, calling him the best wicketkeeper in the country.

Match scorecard; Saha in elite company with Dhoni

On Monday, India thrashed New Zealand by 178 runs to win the 2nd Test and with that pocket the series 2-0 with still a match remaining (from October 8 in Indore).

Saha was one of the architects of this big win, on his home ground - Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The right-hander struck unbeaten half centuries (54 and 58) in both innings of the match, thus becoming only the 4th Indian stumper to do so.

The 31-year-old Saha won the Man-of-the-match award in Kolkata. No batsman managed to score a century in the Test, which was India's 250th at home.

At the post-match presentation ceremony, Kohli was asked about Saha and he praised him as "brilliant" in the match.

"(Wriddhiman) Saha was brilliant (in the match). He is the best wicketkeeper in the country. He is doing a great job in Test cricket. That hundred in the West Indies really improved his confidence. He understands how to bat with the tail now," Kohli, who notched up his 9th Test win as captain, said.

For a long time, Saha had to wait to become a permanent member of the Test team with Mahendra Singh Dhoni being the regular. After Dhoni's retirement from the five-day format in December 2014, Saha is the first-choice stumper. So far he has played 17 Tests.
