India lost their first of the two-match Test series against South Africa on Thursday (December 28).
The Indian team was beaten by an innings and 32 runs in Centurion and thus their hopes of winning a Test series on South African soil has ended. It was a sorry outing for Rohit Sharma and his troops, which has also taken a toll on their WTC rankings.

India was on top of the WTC 2023-25 cycle table ahead of the first Test in Centurion. But the defeat has dislodged them from the summit spot.
After the defeat against South Africa, India are now dethroned from the top spot of the WTC table. South Africa are currently occupying the top of the table with 100 PCT, while India are currently placed 6th in the table with a PCT of 38.89.
The current India ranking means they are below arch-rivals Pakistan, who have a PCT of 61.11 and placed 2nd in the table.
India have played in both finals of the first two WTC cycles, but lost both of the championship clashes, against New Zealand and Australia respectively.
