WTC Final 2025: Team India reclaimed the top spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 standings after a massive 295-run win over rivals Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Monday (November 25).
In Perth's challenging conditions, India pulled off the unexpected despite posting just 150 in the first innings to go 1-0 up in the series. With the thumping win, India toppled Australia and reclaimed its spot at the summit of the WTC with a point percentage of 61.11 per cent in 15 matches with nine wins and five defeats.

Australia, on the other hand, slipped to the second spot in the World Test Championship standings with a point percentage of 57.69 per cent in 13 matches with eight wins and four defeats.
Before their tour Down Under, India had dropped down to the second spot after suffering a 3-0 series white-wash at the hands of New Zealand at home. India started the BGT with a point percentage of 58.33 per cent after eight wins and five defeats in 14 matches.
Australia had moved to the summit after India's historic home Test series whitewash against New Zealand. Australia topped the charts with a point percentage of 62.50 per cent. Before tasting defeat in their stronghold, the Baggy Greens had eight wins and three defeats.
The Baggy Greens will look to bounce back when they host India in the day-night Test at Adelaide. The two sides will be locked in four more Tests in the series as the WTC Final race is set to head into early next year. Here is a look at the latest WTC standings:

With the Perth Test win, India is in a good position to qualify for the WTC Final scheduled to be held at Lord's in June 2025. The Men in Blue need three wins from their remaining four matches to secure their place in the final, but have to be wary of second-placed Australia.
New Zealand and South Africa are definitely in the race for a WTC final spot along with Sri Lanka, but India and Australia still hold the top two spots and will look to outdo each other as the race for the WTC final spot gets heated in the coming weeks.
Australia need at least four wins from their remaining six matches to confirm qualification, while third-placed Sri Lanka need to win three of their remaining four matches to reach the WTC final. Sri Lanka has a 55.56 percentage of points won.
Meanwhile, the 2021 WTC champions New Zealand are still in contention but will need to win most of their remaining matches, including a series against England, to stay in the hunt. The Black Caps are in the fourth spot with a win percentage of 54.55.
South Africa in fifth spot also are well-placed to challenge for the top two finish, but that will be dependent on the Proteas winning their remaining four matches at home against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. South Africa has a win percentage of 54.17.
West Indies and Bangladesh, who are both out of contention lock horns in the Caribbean, while South Africa host Sri Lanka, and New Zealand host England in the coming weeks. Here is a look at the Test matches of the WTC 2023-25 cycle scheduled for the month of November:
