India returned to the second position on the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 standings following a 106-run victory over England in the second Test of the five-match series on Monday (February 5).
After slipping to fifth following the series opening loss to England last month in Hyderabad, India bounced back to seal a comprehensive win on day 4 of the second Test at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Opting to bat first, India rode on Yashasvi Jaiswal's maiden double century to score 396 in the first innings before Jasprit Bumrah's six-wicket haul saw the hosts bundle out England for 255, helping India claim a handsome lead, which was further swelled thanks to Shubman Gill's century.
Although Gill scored a century, India's second innings ended at 255. But England's attempt of claiming an Asian record run chase of 399 in the fourth innings was halted by some brilliant bowling by Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin on the penultimate day of the Test.
Ashwin closed in on his 500th Test wicket, while Bumrah broke a frustrating stand after Shreyas Iyer's direct hit sent England skipper Ben Stokes back into the pavillion via a run out. England could only manage 292 in their run chase, resulting in a win for India.
As mentioned earlier, this result not only levels the series, but also takes India back to the second spot in the World Test Championship points table behind Australia. Here is a look at the latest WTC standings:

Sri Lanka also registered a 10-wicket win in a one-off Test against Afghanistan on Monday (February 5) at the SSC in Colombo. But that doesn't count towards WTC as the match does not fall in the World Test Championship. Here is a look what's next in the WTC 2023-25 cycle:
