New Zealand jumped up in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 standings after a historic 8-wicket win over leaders India in the first Test at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday (October 20).
Rachin Ravindra starred with the bat after the pace attack led by Matt Henry and William O'Rourke helped bundle India to their lowest Test total of 46 on home soil in the first innings as New Zealand claimed early advantage and sealed the Bengaluru Test.

This was New Zealand's first win in India in over 36 years, since 1988. With this victory, the Blackcaps now lead the three-match series 1-0 going into the second Test in Pune.
Chasing 107 runs, New Zealand had a shaky start as Jasprit Bumrah dismissed skipper Tom Latham for a duck on the second ball of the final day's play. But Devon Conway, Will Young and Ravindra ensured the visitors crossed the line in the rain-hit Test match.
As a result of the victory in Bengaluru, New Zealand jumped to fourth spot from sixth in the WTC standings, surpassing South Africa and England. This win has also kept them mathematically still alive for a World Test Championship final spot.
With four wins in 9 matches, New Zealand moved to 44.44 win-loss percentage, while India still remained in the top spot despite the defeat, but saw their win-loss percentage drop to 68.06. Here is a look at the latest WTC standings:

New Zealand can further improve their chances of getting closer to the second and third spots in the remaining Tests, while India will aim to bounce back and clinch the series, which will then put them within a win of sealing WTC 2025 final spot.
England also will look for a quick turnaround after facing defeat against Pakistan in the second Test, having won the series opener convincingly. The hosts, however, shone on a spinning deck to seal their first Test win on home soil since February 2021.
Apart from the aforementioned four teams, Bangladesh and South Africa also will be locked in Test action this coming week. Here is a look at the Test matches of the WTC 2023-25 cycle scheduled for the month of October:
