India moved to top of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 standings after New Zealand suffered 172-run loss to Australia in the first Test of the two-match home series on Sunday (March 3).
With 5 wins in 8 Tests in the current cycle, Rohit Sharma’s Team India, who were in second after taking an unassailable lead in the five-match Test series against England, moved to the summit following the top-placed side New Zealand’s loss in Wellington.

Australia rode on Cameron Green’s 174 and Nathan Lyon’s 10 wickets – 4 in the first and 6 in the second – to defeat the Kiwis in their own backyard in a critical World Test Championship series.
As a result of this match, Australia remained in third spot on World Test Championship points table. New Zealand, meanwhile, slipped to second, handing India the top spot. Here is a look at the latest WTC standings:

The Indian team can cement their place on the top position even further when they face England in the final Test of their five-match series in Dharamsala starting March 7. Any slip up, could see New Zealand or Australia challenge for top position.
