WTC Final 2023: Fans miss Gautam Gambhir after India's another ICC Final defeat

It has been yet another heartbreaking moment for India in an ICC trophy final. The Indian team suffered a crushing defeat at the Oval in the WTC Final 2023 against Australia.

A 209-run defeat means India's awful losing streak in the ICC finals has now extended since their ICC Champions Trophy victory back in 2013.

India failed to win the WTC Final in 2021 against New Zealand. They were beaten in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup last year, whereas the men in Blue got ousted in the semi-finals of the 2019 ODI World Cup and 2015 ODI World Cup as well.

This also became India's 4th straight defeat in an ICC final. India lost the 2014 T20 World Cup Final, and then also lost the 2017 Champions Trophy against Pakistan. And now have lost back-to-back WTC Finals.

And amid the loss, former India player Gautam Gambhir started trending on Sunday (June 11). Just after the defeat, the ex-India opener was the talked about player on social media and Twitter. Fans started to compare how Gambhir's role helped India to win two World Cups.

India won the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. And in both the finals, Gautam Gambhir played a crucial role. Gambhir scored a fantastic 75 against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, whereas repeated with a stunning 97 in a crunch final against Sri Lanka as India lifted the ODI World Cup in 2011.
