India continued their dismal run in ICC tournaments since winning the 2013 Champions Trophy following defeat to Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final at The Oval in London.
Since Mahendra Singh Dhoni guided the Men in Blue to a Champions Trophy title nearly a decade ago, the Indian cricket team has come close to lifting another ICC title, but has fallen short in their nine attempts so far.

The most recent failure was the World Test Championship 2023 final in which they suffered a 209 runs defeat to Australia at the Kennington Oval in London in June 2023.
Earlier, they suffered heart break at the T20 World Cup last year in Australia, where they bowed out in the semifinals following defeat to eventual champions England. Before that, they exited in the Super 12 stage in T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE.
In fact, the Men in Blue also suffered heartbreak in their last attempt at the World Test Championship mace as they lost the 2021 final by 8 wickets to New Zealand at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
The Indian cricket team, which has won five ICC titles prior to 2014, has also had two more runners up finish and a few semifinal exits in ICC tournaments during the last 10 years of drought at the global events. Here is a look at India's run in ICC tournaments since 2013 Champions Trophy:
| Tournament | India Finish | India Captain |
| T20 World Cup 2014 | Runners Up | MS Dhoni |
| ODI World Cup 2015 | Semi-Finals | MS Dhoni |
| T20 World Cup 2016 | Semi-Finals | MS Dhoni |
| Champions Trophy 2017 | Runners Up | Virat Kohli |
| ODI World Cup 2019 | Semi-Finals | Virat Kohli |
| WTC Final 2021 | Runners Up | Virat Kohli |
| T20 World Cup 2021 | Super 12 | Virat Kohli |
| T20 World Cup 2022 | Semi-Finals | Rohit Sharma |
| WTC Final 2023 | Runners Up | Rohit Sharma |
Before the 2013 Champions Trophy triumph, Dhoni had guided India to one T20 World Cup title in 2007 and one ODI World Cup triumph in 2011, ending a 23-year wait for the 50-over World Cup.
India had also won only the 1983 World Cup under Kapil Dev and shared the Champions Trophy with Sri Lanka in 2002 under Sourav Ganguly, who also guided the Men in Blue to the first World Cup final since 1983 in 2003, when they lost the final to Australia.
Apart from that, Indian cricket team has not tasted much success in ICC events. But they have a chance to correct that this year with the ODI World Cup at home in October-November.
