WTC Final 2023: Sunil Gavaskar takes cheeky dig at Rohit Sharma after cheap dismissal

Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is not surprised that Rohit Sharma got out cheaply in the WTC Final 2023 against Australia.

India captain Rohit Sharma had yet another disappointing outing with the bat. He made a good start but was dismissed for just 15 runs with the bat. India made a horrible start to their batting as fellow opener Shubman Gill also departed soon.

Another veteran Cheteshwar Pujara fell cheaply, while Virat Kohli had an off day as he departed for just 14 runs. India were tottering at 71 for 4 in reply to Australia's mammoth 469 in the first innings.

Ex-India player Sunil Gavaskar dissected the proceeding of the second day after the match and made a huge remark about the Indian captain.

"Rohit Sharma has been not in the best of touches in the IPL. So, him playing across the line was not that much of a surprise," Gavaskar said at the post-match show.

Rohit's fellow partner Shubman Gill has been in tremendous form of late. The batter scored many runs in white-ball formats and was also the highest run-scorer in IPL 2023. But Gill made a terrible misjudgement and gifted his wicket, and Pujara also fell in an identical fashion.

"I think it's a couple of misjudgements from probably like Shubman Gill, who has been in great form. Losing him was a big blow. But again Pujara, not quite covering his stumps and getting out. So these were the dismissals that could have been avoided," Gavaskar added while speaking to Star Sports.

"But to Australia's credit, they bowled a much fuller length, and got the batters into thinking that the line was such that most batters - however good you are, that off stump, there is always a little bit of uncertainty," the ex-India player further commented.

India are 151 for 5 at the end of Day 2 and all their hopes bank on Ajinkya Rahane, who is making a return to the India team. Rahane remained unbeaten on 29 at the end of day's play on Thursday, with KS Bharat giving him company.
