Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj were obvious choices in the playing 11. India have also included Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur in the team, whereas going with Ravindra Jadeja as the solitary spinner. With this, veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been left out, which has surprised many.

Ashwin picked up 25 wickets in the Border Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year and captain Rohit Sharma explained it was a tough decision to leave him out of the team.

Twitter has also erupted after Ashwin's omission and many have justified the selection where some have seriously questioned India's team selection. Here are some of the Twitter reactions-

This user believes Ashwin's omission will be a huge bonus for Australia. He also thinks no Axar Patel is another plus point for Pat Cummins and co. Patel scored a lot of runs with the bat in Tests against Australia and him not playing will be a big bonus.

This user says he would have picked Ravichandran Ashwin 100 %

It was the conditions which really played a pivotal part in the selection of Shardul Thakur instead of Ravichandran Ashwin.
