India's dreams of making the World Test Championship Final is in dire straits at the moment.

The most recent defeat in Melbourne against Australia has jeopardized their chances massively. With just one match of the cycle left, Rohit Sharma and his troops have no control over the qualification at the moment.

South Africa, beat Pakistan in the first Test of their series and thus have advanced to the Final. The Proteas will be playing in the final in 2025, with either Australia or India set to join them in the finale.

Australia, after the MCG victory, currently occupy the 2nd spot in the WTC table with a PCT of 61.46. On the other hand, India are placed 3rd with a PCT of 52.78, significantly behind the Aussies.

Although Rohit Sharma's team is in deep trouble, they can still make it to the final, but would need assistance in order to do that.

India WTC Qualification Scenario: How can India qualify for WTC Final?

There are two conditions for India to qualify for the WTC final. Here is a detailed look into the scenario-

Condition 1

India will have this condition in their own hands. The task is simple, which is to beat Australia in the final Test match in Sydney. Winning the final match of the series is imperative for India in order to have any chance for WTC Final qualification.

A victory for India in Sydney will take their PCT to 55.26, while it will drag Australia's PCT to 57.84 - still better than India.

Condition 2

If the Condition 1 is fulfilled, the focus will shift to Australia's tour to Sri Lanka. The Aussies will play a two-match Test series and if Sri Lanka get either a positive result or find a 0-0 draw in the series, India will qualify for the WTC final.
