Australia sealed their spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final following an impressive 9-wicket victory over India at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Friday (March 3).
Despite sitting at the top of the standings for most of the cycle, Australia's spot in the WTC final was still doubtful after they suffered back-to-back defeats in the first two Tests in India.
However, the Aussies fought back on a testing wicket, which spun from day one, to register a crucial win to confirm their spot in the WTC Final, which is scheduled to take place from June 7 to 11 at the Kennington Oval in London.
Australia amassed 68.52 of their possible WTC points and that means they will finish the current period in first place on the WTC team standings regardless of the result in the final Test of their ongoing series against India.
But, who would join them in the summit clash remained wide open till March 13 as three Test matches in the current WTC cycle took place during that week with at least two teams in the race to book their spot.
First up, South Africa beat West Indies in the second Test at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. But the Proteas only moved to third place with victory that sealed a 2-0 series win.
Next up, second-placed India, who were the favourites to seal the spot, drew with Australia in the fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday (March 9).

Sri Lanka had a chance to topple India, but it was an uphill task as they needed a 2-0 series win in New Zealand. However, the Lankans lost both the Tests, and that handed India a spot in the WTC final.
