Yash Dhull, the former India U-19 captain, has faced a challenging few months, with his recent performances in the ongoing Delhi Premier League reflecting his ongoing battle to reclaim his form following heart surgery.
Starting the season as the captain of Central Delhi Kings, Dhull's journey in the league has been marked by ups and downs. He eventually handed over the captaincy to Jonty Sidhu and took on various roles within the team, including playing as an Impact Player, altering his batting position, and even sitting out during the team's fifth fixture.

In his five innings, Dhull has struggled to find his rhythm, scoring just 93 runs at an average below 20, with a strike rate of 113.41. Commentators have pointed out that the 21-year-old doesn't seem to be in his best form, often appearing rusty and not fully recovered. Following a modest performance in a recent match against East Delhi Riders, where he was dismissed for 8 off 11 balls, Dhull briefly addressed his situation without revealing too much.
"Kuch cheeze hui hai past mai... mai recover karke aaya hu. Thoda time lag raha hai but mai positive hu aur apne game ke liye 100% duga," Dhull was quoted as saying by News18, hinting at the challenges he has faced recently, adding that it is taking time, but he remains positive and committed to giving his all.
The past couple of months have indeed been tough for Dhull. While attending a camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, the medical team discovered an anomaly during a routine check-up. The diagnosis revealed a congenital hole in his heart, which required surgical intervention. Dhull underwent the procedure in Delhi, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) closely monitored his recovery throughout the process.
"During the NCA check-up, the team, after consulting with the set of doctors, advised him to undergo surgery for the hole in his heart. He was attending a camp with the rest of the emerging players a couple of months back in Bengaluru," said Pradeep Kochar, Dhull's childhood coach, shedding light on the sequence of events that led to the surgery.
Dhull's father, Vijay, also confirmed that the condition was present from birth, emphasizing that the surgery was a precautionary measure. "It wasn't anything serious. The hole in the heart was a condition from birth and the NCA team advised a minor surgical procedure. He underwent that in Delhi only and the BCCI continued to keep a check on him during the period," his father added.
Despite the setback, Dhull is gradually regaining his strength and fitness. His coach, Pradeep Kochar, believes that it's only a matter of time before Dhull returns to his former self, particularly in the longer formats of the game. The NCA has already cleared him as fit to play, which is a positive sign for the young cricketer's future.
The Central Delhi Kings are well aware of Dhull's condition, and the support staff has been impressed by his determination and resilience. Although his journey back to full form has had its share of challenges, both in terms of fitness and cricket, Dhull's efforts have not gone unnoticed.
"There have been ups and downs with regards to cricket and fitness but he has put on a brave-hearted show. Most support staff joined the team after the player draft but now they are aware about his condition," a member of the Central Delhi support staff shared, highlighting the respect Dhull has earned within the team.
As Dhull continues his recovery and strives to find his form, there is optimism about his future. The young cricketer, who has been under the national selectors' radar, is expected to overcome this phase and once again make his mark on the cricketing world. With his determination and the support of those around him, Dhull is likely to bounce back stronger, ready to take on new challenges in his career.
