Yashasvi Jaiswal, a key player for India, is set to face new challenges on the upcoming tour of Australia. Brian Lara, the cricket legend, mentioned that while Jaiswal is capable of playing in various conditions, he will need to make mental adjustments for the Australian pitches.
Jaiswal has been impressive this year, scoring 929 runs in eight matches with an average of 66.35.

Lara emphasised that Jaiswal's ability to adapt mentally will be crucial for his success in Australia. He noted that while technical changes might not be necessary, the mental aspect of playing away from home is significant. "The adjustment is your ability to back your talent in whatever conditions," Lara stated, highlighting the importance of mental strength.
Lara believes that Indian players have become more competitive due to international exposure through events like the IPL. This exposure has prepared them for different conditions. However, he stressed that playing against Australia on their home ground presents unique challenges. "I believe that the Indian team that I've seen going to Australia over the last couple of occasions are very capable of winning," Lara added.
Jaiswal and Abhishek Sharma were singled out by Lara as two promising Indian batsmen. Both are left-handed and known for their aggressive and stylish play. Lara expressed his admiration for their growth over the years, saying, "It's great to see them go from strength to strength."
Lara highlighted the importance of having a solid plan for India's success in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which will feature five Tests for the first time. He stressed that facing Australia requires a well-thought-out strategy and the ability to handle pressure. "You've got to have a damn good plan," he said, emphasising the need for focus and belief in each session.
The former West Indies captain also praised India's aggressive approach during the rain-affected Kanpur Test against Bangladesh. He noted that while such outcomes aren't always possible, India's strategy was commendable. "They've got to give themselves the opportunity," Lara remarked about India's efforts to put Bangladesh under pressure.
Lara pointed out that Test cricket is about endurance and discipline. He expressed a desire to see more matches extending into the fourth and fifth days, with batters and bowlers showing resilience. "I want to see batters holding on, battling if they have to battle," he said, highlighting the essence of Test cricket.
While acknowledging India's potential advantage over Bangladesh, Lara cautioned that such opportunities won't always arise. The Kanpur Test was an example where India capitalised on their strengths but not every match will present similar chances.
Lara's insights underline the importance of mental preparation and strategic planning for India as they gear up for their Australian tour. His observations reflect both optimism and caution as India prepares for this challenging series.
