Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has revealed that he scolded Karachi Kings pacer Mohammad Amir for his behaviour during the match against Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on February 14.
The match saw an interesting match-up between Amir and Babar Azam who hit some exquisite boundaries off the left-arm pacer. On one occasion, Amir was seen throwing the ball towards Babar in frustration. Later while talking to the reporters had said that matchups keep the players on their toes but for him bowling to the Pakistan captain or any tail-ender was the same.
"These kinds of matchups and player rivalries keep players on their toes. I personally like these sort of challenges because it keeps me focused. My job is to take wickets and win matches for my team, so for me, facing Babar or a tailender batting at number 10 will be the same," Amir had said on ARY news.
Shaheen Shah Afridi was left baffled after he was told about Amir's comment on Babar.
The same match had seen the Karachi Kings star sledge other opposition players. He also made a finger-on-the-lips gesture after dismissing Hassan Nawaz against Islamabad United.
Now, talking to Samaa TV Shahid Afridi has slammed the on-field behaviour of the 30-year-old, saying that he personally texted and scolded him.
“Whenever a player doesn't perform, or even if he does, I drop him a message for call him. Likewise, I messaged Amir yesterday. I talked to him respectfully, but I also scolded him. I told Amir, 'what do you want?’ You have gained so much respect, you faced a blot on your reputation and from there, you made a return. You got a new life, in a way. What are you even trying to do?” Afridi said.
“Ye koi tareeka hai? (Is this the way to play?) There are juniors around you, you are using bad words. There are fans who are disheartened to see that. Even we have used such words and sometimes, the camera used to catch us. There are families, kids watching you on television. Aggression is fine, but keep it under control.

The former all-rounder also revealed that he asked Amir if he could face Babar in the future if he plays for Pakistan again. Notably, Amir announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020, however, has expressed his desire to play for the Men in Green from time to time.
“If you want to play for Pakistan, you have to play alongside Babar only. Will you be able to look him in the eye? Can you play under his captaincy? Focus on your performance, control your aggression, and go back home peacefully,” Afridi stated.
In the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023, Amir has picked two wickets from two matches at an average of 36.
