Year Ender 2024: List of Big Records Created in Cricket, Featuring Sanju Samson and India at T20 World Cup

As the curtains draw on an exhilarating year of cricket in 2024, fans and analysts alike are left in awe of the remarkable milestones achieved on the field. This year saw extraordinary performances, groundbreaking records, and a historic resurgence by Team India on the global stage.

Among the standout moments was Baroda’s astonishing 349/5 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, setting a world record for the highest team total in T20 cricket. Simultaneously, India’s journey to clinch the T20 World Cup after a 17-year hiatus captured the hearts of millions, cementing their legacy as one of the sport’s greatest teams.

Records list of 2024

Equally dazzling were individual performances, highlighted by Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma, who etched their names into the annals of cricket history with consecutive T20I centuries. Samson’s unmatched zeal and Varma’s youthful brilliance showcased the depth of India’s talent pool.

The year also saw India’s highest-ever T20I total of 297/6 against Bangladesh and dominant series wins, including a commanding 3-0 sweep against New Zealand. As we celebrate these moments, 2024 stands as a testament to cricket’s enduring charm and its ability to inspire across generations.

Baroda Sets a New World Record with 349/5

Baroda smashed the world record for the highest-ever T20 total with a monumental 349/5 against Sikkim in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. This incredible feat, achieved in Indore on December 5, 2024, surpassed Zimbabwe’s 344/4 earlier this October. Baroda also became the first Indian domestic team outside the IPL to score over 100 runs in a T20 PowerPlay, with a staggering 37 sixes in the innings. Zimbabwe’s record-breaking spree earlier this year now takes second place in the all-time T20 list.

India’s Highest T20I Total: 297/6 vs Bangladesh

India shattered their T20I record with a scintillating 297/6 against Bangladesh in Hyderabad on October 12. Led by Sanju Samson’s explosive 111 off 47 balls and a blazing 75 off 35 by captain Suryakumar Yadav, India’s innings was a six-hitting extravaganza that left fans in awe. This performance also marked India’s third-highest T20 international total in cricket history.

Back-to-Back Centuries for Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma

Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma etched their names in cricketing history with consecutive T20I centuries. The duo achieved this rare feat during the India vs South Africa series. At the Wanderers in Johannesburg, Tilak Varma’s 120* off 47 and Samson’s 109* off 56 propelled India to 283/1, their second-highest T20I score. Notably, this was the first instance of two Indian players scoring hundreds in the same T20I match.

Sanju Samson’s three T20I centuries in a calendar year also set a new benchmark, making him the first player in history to achieve this. Meanwhile, Tilak Varma became the youngest Indian batter to score a T20I century at just 22, solidifying his status as a rising star.

India Ends 17-Year Wait for T20 World Cup Glory

Under the inspiring leadership of Rohit Sharma, India clinched their second T20 World Cup title after a 17-year hiatus. The final, held on June 29 in Florida, saw India edge out South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling contest. Virat Kohli, who bid farewell to T20 internationals after the match, played a pivotal role with a composed 76 off 59 balls. Hardik Pandya’s clutch bowling in the final over sealed the victory, marking India’s first ICC trophy since 2013.

Rohit Sharma’s tactical brilliance and Jasprit Bumrah’s lethal spells were instrumental in India’s journey to the top. The win was not only a historic moment for Indian cricket but also a fitting farewell to Virat Kohli, whose legacy in T20 cricket remains unmatched.

IPL 2024: A Season to Remember
