Year-Ender 2024 : Rahul Dravid And KL Rahul; A Story Of Two Rahuls - Nam Toh Sunai Hoga!

Year-Ender 2024 : As we come towards the end of 2024, there were two 'Rahuls' from the cricketing world, who had a year to remember and provided justice to their 'Rahul, naam to suna hoga' swag.

Both Rahul Dravid and KL Rahul proved their mettle and can proudly say they ended the year on a high note.

T20 World Cup Champion - Rahul Dravid

Under Dravid's guidance, India has demonstrated remarkable consistency across all formats. He led the team to a 2nd place finish in both the ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship in 2023. But despite of close-shave finishes, the trophy drought continued. People really questioned his calibre as coach and it looked like his tenure was coming towards the end. But fate had other ideas and he would not leave without a trophy.

Finally came the T20 World Cup in June, 2024, where he not only helped his country to break a 11-year ICC trophy drought but also ended his stint with the national team with a World Cup, something he couldn't achieve during his illustrious days as a player.

Dravid's strategic acumen and calm demeanor were evident during the tournament and he will definitely go down as one of the best coaches of national team. Apart from the World Cup triumph, he also led the side to a 5-1 Test series victory over England at home as well.

KL Rahul - The Phoenix

KL Rahul's trajectory has taken a remarkable upward turn since the Border-Gavaskar series began, establishing him as the standout performer in India's batting order.

His recent displays have won over Indian fans, many of whom had doubted his spot in the team just a few months ago. Now, those same critics are applauding his refined batting technique and composure at the crease. But his journey was not a cake walk as he had to go through injury scare and even omission from the squad, before he found his mojo back in Australia.

From 2021 to 2024 Jan, he had a total of 11 injuries. Even this year, he had to miss the Vizag Test at home against England after a decent outing in Hyderabad. He later came back in the Bangladesh series, but only managed to get a highest score of 64. In the New Zealand series, he was below-par in the 1st Test and that eventually led to his expulsion mid-way to the series. Determined to comeback, he did earn a place in the BGT squad overcoming an elbow injury ahead of the series.

His 77 in the Perth Test in which India won followed by a solid 84 in Brisbane, helped the Rohit Sharma-led side achieve a draw after avoiding a follow-on from a tricky situation.

Rahul's recent heroics has won the hearts of the fans and as far as his Test runs are concerned, he has even eclipsed the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, when it comes to scoring runs overseas. With two more Tests to go in the series, all hopes will be once again pinned on him to deliver for the nation.
