Who won yesterday's cricket matches: On Monday, January 8, 2024, Sri Lanka edged Zimbabwe in the second ODI after they saw their ODI series opener end in No Result last weekend.
Sri Lanka hosted Zimbabwe at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo for the first of their six white ball encounters, but rain played spoilsport after the hosts had fought back to post a challenging total and had the visitors on the back foot before play was called off.

In the second ODI, rain stayed away as the hosts Sri Lanka secured a 2-wicket win over travelling Zimbabwe at the same venue in Colombo to go 1-0 up in the three-match ODI series.
Zimbabwe (ZIM) – 208 All Out in 44.4 overs vs Sri Lanka (SL) - 211/8 in 49 overs. Result – SL won by 2 wickets with 6 balls to spare in the 2nd ODI.
Toss: ZIM won the toss and opted to bat first at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Zimbabwe's Richard Ngarava was the highest wicket-taker in the match with figures of 5 for 32 in 10 overs, while Sri Lanka's Maheesh Theekshana claimed the most wickets for the home side with figures of 4 for 31 in 9.4 overs.
Sri Lanka batter Janith Liyanage was highest scorer in the match with a knock of 95 from 127 balls followed by Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine, who scored 82 off 102 balls.
Sri Lanka’s Janith Liyanage was awarded the player of the match for his spectacular knock of 95 which dug the hosts out from 90 for 5 to take the side towards victory with small partnerships with the lower-middle order and tail-enders.
The two sides will clash in the at the same venue in the third and final ODI on Thursday (January 11) before they meet in a three-match T20I series, starting from Sunday (January 14) also at the same venue in Colombo.
