Yograj Singh Booked Over Alleged Misogynistic Remarks in Web Series ‘Lukkhe’

Former Indian cricketer and actor Yograj Singh, father of star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, has been booked by Chandigarh Police for allegedly making derogatory remarks against women in a viral clip from the Hindi web series Lukkhe.

An FIR was registered at Sector 36 Police Station under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 62A of the IT Act, 2000, following a complaint by advocate Ujjwal Bhasin, treasurer of the District Bar Association, and Jatin Verma.

Yograj Singh Booked Over Alleged Misogynistic Remarks in Web Series Lukkhe

Why is Yograj Singh Booked?

The 17-second clip, which spread rapidly on social media after the series dropped on Amazon Prime Video on May 8, shows Singh's character "Walia Sahab" inside a police station, delivering what complainants described as "shameful, insulting and indecent" lines that attack the "dignity and respect of women."The Punjab State Women Commission took suo motu cognisance and issued a notice to Singh, directing a senior Punjab Police officer to probe the matter and submit a report within a week. Chairperson Raj Lali Gill has also suggested involving the Censor Board to regulate such content.

Lukkhe, a gritty crime drama set in Punjab's underground rap scene, follows a young athlete infiltrating a drug cartel. Singh, who has transitioned from a brief Test cricket career in the 1980s to Punjabi and Hindi acting roles, plays a supporting part.

While some defend the dialogue as fictional character work, critics argue public figures must uphold higher standards, especially given Singh's history of controversial statements on women, cricketers and other issues. Police have confirmed further investigation is underway. Singh is yet to respond publicly. The case has sparked widespread debate on social media about misogyny in entertainment and accountability for actors.
