By MyKhel Staff

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the inaugural event of the 7th Khelo India Youth Games via videoconference, lauded the phenomenal rise of young cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has taken the IPL 2025 by storm with his incredible performances for the Rajasthan Royals.

The 14-year-old prodigy stunned cricket fans last week with a breathtaking century in just 35 deliveries, laced with seven boundaries and 11 towering sixes. Since his debut a few weeks ago, the young opener has rapidly become one of the standout performers in the tournament.

"I have seen in the IPL, the son of Bihar, Vaibhav Suryavanshi's spectacular performance. At such a young age, Vaibhav has set such a great record. There is a lot of hard work behind Vaibhav's performance," said Prime Minister Modi.

He further emphasized the importance of exposure through consistent match participation, adding, "To bring his talent to the forefront, he has played many matches at different levels. The more you play, the more you will shine. Competing in matches and competitions as much as possible is very important. The NDA government has always given it the highest priority in its policies."

The Bihar Cricket Association (BCA), known for its commitment to grassroots development in recent years, has played a pivotal role in nurturing Vaibhav's talent. BCA President Rakesh Tiwari, who was present at the venue alongside Rajasthan Royals' chairman during the match, expressed pride in the youngster's achievement.

"Vaibhav has once again made Bihar and the entire country proud. Scoring the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history at just 14 years old is nothing short of extraordinary. His fearless approach, incredible skill, and maturity beyond his years are inspiring," said Tiwari.

"I have always believed he is destined for greatness, and today he has taken another giant step towards it. This is just the beginning of a truly remarkable journey," he added.

In the 47th IPL 2025 match against Gujarat Titans, Vaibhav opened the innings and formed a formidable 166-run partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal, guiding the Royals to a total of 166 in just 12 overs. He had recently also become the youngest player ever to feature in an IPL match.

Picked up for ₹1.1 crore in the 2024 IPL auction, Vaibhav made headlines even before stepping onto the field. Born on March 27, 2011, in Bihar, he made his first-class debut in January 2024 at the tender age of 12 years and 284 days.

His debut performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy included a quickfire 71 off 42 balls against Baroda, making him the youngest Indian to score a fifty in List A cricket.

Internationally, Vaibhav has also impressed, notching up the fastest youth Test century by an Indian - a blistering 58-ball hundred against Australia in Chennai. His contributions were equally vital during India's campaign in the ACC U19 Asia Cup, where he scored two important half-centuries en route to the final.
