YouTube Blocks PSL 2025 Live Coverage in India amid Indian Government Crackdown on Pakistan Channels

By MyKhel Staff

In a significant development, YouTube has blocked the Sports Central channel in India, halting live streaming of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 matches for Indian viewers.

The move comes amid a sweeping crackdown by the Indian government, which recently banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels accused of spreading misinformation following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

YouTube Blocks PSL 2025 Live Coverage in India

Sports Central had been streaming PSL 2025 matches live on YouTube after Indian broadcasters -- FanCode (online) and Sony Sports Network (TV) -- stopped coverage due to escalating tensions following the attack. With Sports Central now inaccessible in India, fans have been left with no official source to watch the tournament in the country.

According to government sources, the decision to block these channels was taken on the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The banned YouTube channels included major Pakistani media outlets such as Geo News, Dawn, Bol News, ARY News, Raftar, Samaa TV, and Suno News.

Also affected were channels operated by prominent Pakistani journalists like Muneeb Farooq, Umar Cheema, Asma Shirazi, and Irshad Bhatti. Sports-related channels like Uzair Cricket and Samaa Sports were also part of the ban list, which collectively amassed over 63 million subscribers.

The government stated that these platforms were disseminating provocative, communally sensitive, false, and misleading narratives targeting India's sovereignty and its security forces. The move to block them was positioned as necessary to maintain public order and national security, especially in the aftermath of the deadly attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, including one Nepali tourist.

Interestingly, while former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar's YouTube channel was not officially listed among the banned platforms, it also became inaccessible in India. Attempting to access Akhtar's channel now displays a message stating that "this content is currently unavailable in this country because of an order from the government related to national security or public order."

The Pahalgam attack, which occurred on April 22, 2025, has deeply impacted India-Pakistan relations, with New Delhi suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and tightening visa policies against Pakistani nationals. The attack saw gunmen open fire on tourists in the Baisaran meadow area, triggering widespread national outrage and diplomatic fallout.

Following the attack, tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) have also escalated, with multiple ceasefire violations reported. The Indian Army and security forces remain on high alert, conducting intensified operations to neutralize the perpetrators.

The blockage of Sports Central not only shows the broader political and security rift between the two nations but also highlights the direct impact on sports fans, who now find themselves unable to legally access live PSL content in India. With the Indian government adopting a stricter stance on cross-border misinformation, it remains to be seen whether alternative platforms will seek to fill the void left by FanCode, Sony Sports, and now, YouTube's Sports Central ban.
