Yusuf Pathan emerge as CEAT 'Domestic cricketer of the Year'

Bangalore, Mar 24 (UNI) All rounder Yusuf Pathan of Baroda was today declared the 'CEAT India Cricketer of the Year 2007-08', a honour meant for best performances in the domestic tournament.

Former Indian cricket great G R Vishwanath presented the CEAT awards at a function here today. Yusuf pocketed a cash prize of Rs two lakh and a glittering trophy.

The other star domestic players, who were honoured, included Delhi's Aksash Chopra, who was adjudged as best batsmen of the year and Karnataka's R Vinay Kumar was declared bowler of the year. Both the players got a cash prize of Rs one lakh each.

C A Pujara of Gujarat was adjudged as the 'most promising youngster of the year' and he took home Rs one lakh as prize.

During the function, the World Cup winning Under-19 team was felicitated.

CEAT Ltd Vice President Arnab Banerjee said this year's domestic award function was a reiteration of a close association the company had with cricket and its endeavour was to recognise the individual brilliance on the domestic cricket scene.

''Our cricket ranking celebrates the upcoming talent of Indian cricket with the CEAT under-19 cricketer of the year award,'' he added.

Amarjit Kaypee of Jalandhar was honoured with CEAT India Lifetime Achievement award. He was selected on the basis of Retro-CEAT Cricket Ratings and his prominence over his entire career span had been taken into consideration.

In another move, Ceat also introduced Under-19 ratings. This rating had been introduced to catch and promote young talents from across the country, especially from small towns.
