Yuvendra Chahal picks another 9-wicket haul in County Championship, fires Northamptonshire to 9-wicket win

By MyKhel Staff

Yuzvendra Chahal shone again for Northamptonshire in their County Championship Division Two match against Leicestershire in Northampton. Like his previous outing against Derbyshire, the leg-spinner registered another nine-wicket haul in the match and helped Northamptonshire thrash Leicestershire by nine wickets.

The 34-year-old picked four wickets in the first innings. He picked the wickets of Ian Holland, Rehan Ahmed, Ben Cox and Scott Currie. In the second innings, Chahal picked a five wicket-haul. His five-wicket haul in the first innings against Derbyshire had helped him complete his 100 wickets in first-class cricket.

This time around he dismissed four of the top six batters except the openers to break the backbone of Leicestershire. The tweaker dismissed Holland, captain Lewis Hill and Rehan Ahmed first. He then dismissed Liam Trevaskis, before getting rid of Scott Currie, who top-scored for Leicestershire with 120.

Northamptonshire wicketkeeper-batter played his part in four of the five dismissals in the second innings (three stumpings and a catch). Later, Northamptonshire chased down a 137-run target in 30.3 overs for the loss of just one wicket.

With the win, Northamptonshire are now fourth on the eight-team points table with two wins in 13 matches. They will face Yorkshire from September 26 in their last County Championship match of the season.

Chahal out of Indian team after T20 World Cup 2024

Yuzvendra Chahal has once again been dropped from the Indian white-ball team after the T20 World Cup 2024. The tweaker was part of India's T20 World Cup 2024 side which lifted the trophy on June 29 in Barbados, but he did not play a single match in the ICC tournament.

He was not included in the team's T20I tour of Zimbabwe, and was also dropped from the white-ball squads which travelled to Sri Lanka. Chahal was also not given a central contract by the BCCI earlier this year.
