Yuvraj Singh likely to join BJP ahead of Lok Sabha 2024 Elections to replace Bollywood Star, Another Former India cricketer also poised for BJP return

Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh is possibly joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Lok Sabha 2024 elections.

The speculations have arisen after the 42-year-old was seen in a meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. It is believed that Yuvraj might contest the Lok Sabha Elections from the Gurdaspur constituency in Punjab, a seat currently held by Bollywood actor Sunny Deol of the BJP.

The Gurdaspur constituency has a history of being represented by high-profile candidates, including the late actor Vinod Khanna. This move to potentially introduce Yuvraj Singh as a candidate aligns with the BJP's strategy of involving prominent personalities in politics. However, official confirmation from both the BJP and Yuvraj Singh himself is pending.

Another significant development is the reported return of former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu to the BJP. Sidhu, who was a key member of the BJP before joining the Indian National Congress (INC) in 2017, is likely to return to the fold ahead of the upcoming elections. His tenure with INC was marked by his rise as a prominent face in Punjab politics, although disagreements with then Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh led to internal conflicts.

Despite Sidhu's efforts, the INC failed to secure victory in the Punjab state election in 2022, diminishing his opportunities within the party. Insider sources suggest that discussions are ongoing regarding Sidhu's potential candidacy for the BJP, with the Amritsar constituency being a likely option for him. However, these discussions are reportedly being kept under wraps.

Opposition to Sidhu's potential party switch has been voiced by Congress functionary Raman Bakshi, highlighting the credibility issues faced by politicians who frequently change parties. According to Bakshi, such moves can lead to a loss of public trust and diminish a politician's appeal.

These developments indicate a dynamic pre-election period in Punjab, with both Yuvraj Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu possibly playing crucial roles for the BJP. While official announcements are awaited, the political scenario in Punjab remains a topic of keen interest and speculation.
