IPL 2023: Absolutely no idea how Bangalore let Chahal go, greatest gifts in history of league -Pietersen

IPL 2023: Kevin Pietersen has called Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) letting go of Yuzvendra Chahal as the greatest gift in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The leg-spinner was released by RCB ahead of the IPL 2022 and was not bought back in the following auction either.

The 32-year-old played 139 wickets at an average of 22.03 and an economy of 7.58 for RCB in 113 matches he represented them. Rajasthan Royals bought Chahal for Rs 6.50 crore and he picked 27 wickets - the most in the IPL 2022.

This season as well, Chahal is leading the list of highest wicket-takers with 11 scalps in six matches. He recently became the first Indian bowler to take 300 wickets in T20 cricket.

"One of the greatest gifts in the history of the IPL is Chahal to the Rajasthan Royals. Absolutely no idea how Bangalore let him go. Always took the wickets, he was the bloke who kept them in the game.

"Unbelievable that this bloke is now wearing pink. With the ball he was the most valuable asset for RCB," Kevin Pietersen said on air while doing commentary for Star Sports during the RR vs LSG game," Pietersen told Star Sports.

Chahal will face his former team RCB at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday. So far, he has played three matches against them and picked two wickets at an economy of 6.91. Rajasthan are currently occupying the top spot despite their 10-run defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Wednesday.
