ZIM vs PAK: Zimbabwe Achieves 80-Run Victory Over New-Look Pakistan in Rain-Affected First ODI

ZIM vs PAK: Zimbabwe secured an impressive 80-run victory over Pakistan using the DLS method in a rain-affected 1st ODI. Sikandar Raza played a pivotal role, contributing 39 runs and taking two wickets.

His partnership with Richard Ngarava, who scored 48, lifted Zimbabwe from 125-7 to 205 all out. The match was halted by rain with Pakistan at 60-6, giving Zimbabwe a 1-0 lead in the series.

Zimbabwe Stuns Pakistan in First ODI

Pakistan's bowling attack struggled without key players Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah. Debutant Aamer Jamal and Mohammad Hasnain couldn't trouble Zimbabwe's openers. Tadiwanashe Marumani and Joylord Gumbie put on a brisk opening stand of 40 runs before Gumbie was run out due to a mix-up.

Zimbabwe's Batting Resilience

Zimbabwe faced challenges as Pakistan's spinners Faisal Akram and Salman Ali Agha took crucial wickets. Akram claimed 3-24, while Agha secured 3-42, reducing Zimbabwe to 125-7. However, Raza and Ngarava's partnership added vital runs, frustrating Pakistan's bowlers.

Raza fell attempting a big shot against Akram, caught near the boundary. Ngarava was the last to be dismissed after hitting five fours and a six, chopping Hasnain onto his stumps. Their efforts ensured Zimbabwe posted a respectable total.

Pakistan's Struggles with the Bat

Blessing Muzarabani exploited home conditions effectively, dismissing Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique early. Kamran Ghulam and captain Mohammad Rizwan tried to stabilize the innings but struggled against Zimbabwe's spinners. Sean Williams dismissed Ghulam for 17, while Raza took two wickets in quick succession.

Raza trapped Salman Ali Agha leg before wicket and bowled Haseebullah Khan for zero on his ODI debut. Pakistan lost four wickets for just 18 runs during this phase, unable to recover before rain intervened.

Series Outlook

The three-match ODI series will continue with two more games, followed by three T20 matches in Bulawayo. Pakistan will aim to bounce back after experimenting with their squad ahead of next year's Champions Trophy.
