Zimbabwe will look to keep series alive versus Pakistan today

Lahore, May 29: Zimbabwe will take on Pakistan in the second match of their three-match one-day international series at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Friday.

Zimbabwe made history after becoming the first side to tour the troubled Asian country after a gap of six years but they are yet to produce anything magical on the ground so far to make the trip more memorable.

They lost the two-match Twenty20 series 0-2 before going down to the hosts by 41 runs in a high-scoring first one-day international at the same ground. The two-match ban on their captain Elton Chigumbura, who smashed a 95-ball 117 in the previous match and the injury to batsman Craig Ervine, has made their task to come back in the series all the more challenging. Hamilton Masakadza will lead Zimbabwe in the remaining two matches.

The new-look Pakistan team, on the other hand, has been playing well. Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik are among the runs while Wahab Riaz and spinners have kept the opponents under check. But Pakistan's victory came after a long time and they are yet to win a one-day series since the one against Sri Lanka in December 2013.

The team saw a change in leadership after veteran Misbah-ul-Haq retired after a disappointing World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in February-March this year.
