Daniel Michel Biography

Dan's passion for boccia ignited after a demonstration by Boccia NSW. He described the experience as finding a purpose he had long craved. "Boccia gives me a sense of purpose in life that I didn't have prior to discovering the sport," he said. His dedication to improvement was immediate and intense.

Career Milestones

Dan made his debut for Australia in 2013 in Sydney. His career highlights include winning bronze in the open BC3 individual event at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo. This was Australia's first individual Paralympic medal in boccia. He also claimed two gold medals at the 2022 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro.

Training and Teamwork

Dan trains up to four times a week with his Australia teammate Jamieson Leeson. Their hard work paid off when they were named Team of the Year at the 2023 AIS Sport Performance Awards in Melbourne. Dan's training is guided by national coach Ken Halliday and supported by Ashlee McClure.
