Daniel Pembroke Paralympics 2024

Daniel Pembroke Biography

Dan's promising career faced a major setback when he tore his medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his elbow. This injury required surgery and ended his chances of competing at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Following this, he quit athletics and spent time travelling overseas, visiting Italy, New Zealand, Australia, and Thailand.

Return to Sport

After returning to the United Kingdom in 2019, Dan decided to take up Para athletics. He initially tried running but found it wasn't for him. He then returned to javelin and was put in contact with Paula Dunn, the then GB Paralympic head coach. His performance impressed her enough to get him back on board.

Training and Coaching

Dan trains in Loughborough, England, under the guidance of his personal coach David Turner. His training regime is rigorous, focusing on maintaining his technique and muscle memory despite his deteriorating eyesight since 2011.

Achievements and Honours

In recognition of his contributions to sport, Dan was appointed Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2022 New Year Honours list. This accolade highlights his dedication and achievements in Para athletics.

Personal Life

Dan is married to Martina and enjoys gardening as a hobby. He speaks English and has a background in massage therapy, having studied at the Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford, GBR. He works as a massage therapist at the Hereford Centre for Natural Health.

Future Ambitions

Looking ahead, Dan aims to retain his Paralympic gold medal at the 2024 Games in Paris. His journey from overcoming injuries to excelling in Para athletics serves as an inspiration for many aspiring athletes.
