Hicks started entering Para cycling competitions in 2015. He initially took up riding again for rehabilitation purposes. "I just started riding again, for rehab really. Then I enjoyed it. I didn't think I had much of a chance, but I just started training more and riding more and it started to come together," he said.

Coaching and Club Affiliation

Hicks is coached by Cam Jennings and is a member of the Norwood Cycling Club in Australia. His dedication to hard work is evident in his achievements. "I don't shy away from hard work, and I think that's one of the reasons why I have achieved all the things I have now," Hicks stated.

One of Hicks' most memorable moments came in 2018 when he won both the C2 time trial and the C2 road race at the Road World Cup event in Ostend, Belgium. This success marked a significant milestone in his career.

In 2022, Hicks was honoured with the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM). This prestigious award recognised his contributions to Para cycling. Additionally, he was named Para Athlete of the Year by the South Australia Sports Institute in 2018.
