He began swimming at age nine after initially playing ice hockey. Following the loss of his vision, his mother sought a new sport for him. He was accepted to train at a swimming club in Tachov, Czechia. "I had a feeling for the water, I did well from the beginning," he said.

His family and coach Rudolf Hutta have been significant influences in his life. He also trains under Marcel Smejkal at his club and receives guidance from his mother, Stanislava Kratochvilova.
In 2023 and 2018, he was named among the Athletes of the Year in the Tachov district of Czechia. Additionally, he received an award from the Czech Fair Play Committee for his decision not to compete at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo. This allowed 57-year-old Miroslav Smrcka to compete in what was likely Smrcka's final Paralympic Games.
Looking ahead, he aims to achieve at least a fifth or sixth place finish at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. He also hopes to win a Paralympic medal at some point in his career. These goals reflect his commitment and determination to excel in swimming.
Outside of swimming, he enjoys playing chess, the piano, guitar, and accordion. He also engages in ceramic modelling. These hobbies provide a balance to his intense training schedule.
He speaks Czech fluently, which helps him communicate effectively with his coaches and family. This linguistic ability is crucial for his training and personal life.
He is affiliated with Plavecky Klub Tachov in Czechia. This club has been instrumental in his development as a swimmer, providing him with the necessary resources and support.
