Yehor Dementyev Biography

He competed at the U23 world championships for non-Para road cycling and cyclo-cross. However, his career faced a major setback in May 2011 when he was hit by a car while training. He sustained broken ribs and wrists, a broken collarbone, and two damaged vertebrae. This accident kept him out of competition for six months.

Paralympic Success

Despite the injury, he made a remarkable comeback. At the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, he won Ukraine's first cycling medal by securing gold in the men's C5 time trial. This victory is one of his most memorable moments. As of the 2020 Games, he has won all seven of Ukraine's Paralympic medals in cycling.

Awards and Recognition

In recognition of his achievements at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, he received the Order of Merit [first class] from the president of Ukraine. Additionally, he has been honoured with the title of Honoured Master of Sport in Ukraine.

Personal Life and Interests

He holds a degree in Information Technology from Kremenchuk University of Economics, Information Technology and Management in Ukraine. He speaks English, Italian, Russian, and Ukrainian. His family includes his wife Natalia Dementyeva and their daughter Maria, born in 2013. Outside of cycling, he enjoys spending time with his family and motorsport.

Looking ahead, he aims to compete at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. His goal is to win gold in the road race at the world championships. With his track record and determination, these ambitions seem well within reach.
