Dorota Buclaw Biography

Dori was an active child who played basketball before her first accident. Her uncle, Ryszard Marczak, who represented Poland in athletics at the 1980 Olympic Games, encouraged her to get involved in Para sport. She tried swimming, running, and table tennis, eventually sticking with table tennis.

Her first accident forced her to switch from being right-handed to left-handed. She had to relearn writing and playing table tennis with her left hand. Despite these challenges, she persevered and continued to excel in her sport.

Challenges and Triumphs

In 2012, during her first match at the Paralympic Games in London, Dori fractured fingers on her left hand. Despite the injury, she managed to play one more match. This incident highlighted her determination and resilience.

Dori's second accident occurred in 1999 when she was a passenger in a car driven by Dorota Kubicka, a physiotherapist she met after her first accident. Kubicka has been a significant support system for Dori, assisting her in daily life and at competitions.

Support System

Kubicka helped Dori recover after both accidents and has accompanied her to the 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Games. Despite not receiving medals herself, Kubicka's contributions have been invaluable to Dori's success.

Ambitions

Looking ahead, Dori plans to continue competing at the highest level. She aims to participate in upcoming international tournaments and hopes to inspire others through her journey. Her story is a testament to the power of perseverance and support.

Influences

Dori cites Slovenian Para table tennis player Mateja Pintar as her hero. Pintar's achievements have inspired Dori throughout her career. This admiration has fueled her drive to excel in Para table tennis.
