He started fencing thanks to Pellegrini's encouragement. "I took up fencing thanks to my teammate Alberto Pellegrini. During rehabilitation at Santa Lucia, he told me, 'I will introduce you to a sport you will fall in love with'. And so it all started, thanks to his great example," he said.
