63rd Subroto Cup Sub-Junior Boys Begins Today at Bengaluru, Know Participants

The Sub-Junior Boys Category of the 63rd Subroto Cup is set to begin tomorrow across multiple venues in Bengaluru. A total of 36 teams from various states, union territories, educational institutions, and two foreign nations will compete for the top prize.

This year marks the introduction of the Under-15 category, replacing the previous Under-14 division. The tournament's opening match at Air Force School, Jalahalli, will see NNMHSS Chelembra from Malappuram, Kerala face off against 01 Goa Battalion, representing the National Cadet Corps, at 7:30 AM.

Following the opening ceremony, a highlight match at the Army Service Corps Centre will feature a showdown between Army Boys Company, Bengaluru, and Maharana Pratap Sports College, Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

The 36 teams are split into eight groups, with the group winners advancing to the quarterfinals. Group stage matches will run until August 23. Minerva Public School from Mohali, Punjab, the reigning champions, will aim to defend their title this year, representing the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE). The tournament also includes teams from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

In compliance with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) regulations, a Skeletal Age Estimation Test was carried out today to prevent age fraud, with the results still pending. Teams found with four or more overage players will be disqualified. Last year, 15 teams were removed for fielding overage players.

The tournament's matches will be hosted at venues including the Army Service Corps Centre, Air Force School in Jalahalli, Air Force School in Yehalanka, and the HQ Training Command Football Ground. The quarterfinals are set for August 25, the semifinals on August 26, and the final match will take place on August 28 at the ASC Centre.
