A different kind of homecoming for Coppell

Bengaluru, November 24: The Indian Super League (ISL) tie against Kerala Blasters on Friday (November 24) marks a return to home for Jamshedpur FC coach Steve Coppell.

The Englishman was in charge of Blasters last season and took them all the way upto finals where they lost to ATK in penalties.

"I'm very happy to be back in Kochi in many ways. To see so many of my old players, to see the town, the stadium; it brings back a lot of happy memories for me from last season," Coppell said ahead of the ISL debutants' tie at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

The former Manchester United player has coached mostly in England where he was in charge of top clubs including a one-year stint with former Premier League champions Manchester City.

After spending a season each as Director of Football in Crawley Town and Portsmouth, Coppell returned to coaching in ISL's third season with Blasters with whom he shares a special bond.

"I'm glad to be here. The reception I've had so far from the people I've seen walking on the streets has been lovely," he said.

The 62-year-old Coppell may be enjoying himself at place that gave him so many fond memories last season, but he remains focused on his job with his new team, who are one of the two ISL debutants this season along with Bengaluru FC.

"It's nice to be remembered, but it's a new season, and I'm here to do the job for somebody else," Coppell said.
