Aaron Ramsey Inspired By Mikel Arteta To Start Management Career

Aaron Ramsey is preparing for life in the dugout, explaining that Mikel Arteta has driven that ambition. The former Arsenal midfielder is working towards a UEFA pro licence. Ramsey hopes to follow Arteta’s example and compete for major trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League, as a future manager.

The former Wales international ended a long playing career earlier in 2026, after leaving Pumas UNAM by mutual agreement in October 2025. Ramsey has since taken a short break from playing. After several months away from competition, Ramsey says the focus is now fully on returning in a coaching role.

Ramsey Eyes Management After Arteta Influence

Ramsey has already sampled management pressure in club football. Cardiff City appointed Ramsey as interim boss near the end of the 2024-25 season. Cardiff failed to win in three matches under Ramsey, recording two draws and one defeat, and the Bluebirds were relegated from the second tier that campaign.

Internationally, Ramsey has been involved with the Wales set-up under Craig Bellamy. Bellamy’s side reached the World Cup play-offs but lost toBosnia-Herzegovina, missing out on qualification. That experience has given Ramsey further insight into coaching at elite level. It also strengthened Ramsey’s desire to guide teams through high-pressure knockout fixtures.

Ramsey believes Arteta offers a clear path from dressing room to technical area. Ramsey and Arteta played together at Arsenal between 2011 and 2016. During that spell they lifted the FA Cup twice, beating Hull City and Aston Villa. Those successes now act as reference points for Ramsey’s coaching ambitions.

Reflecting on Arteta’s journey, Ramsey recalled their shared education pathway. Ramsey said: "It is inspiring because Mikel was here [studying] around 10 years ago, in the same position starting his journey. That's inspiring for us, to see him 10 years later, lifting the Premier League and in the Champions League final."

Ramsey’s own aims are similarly bold. Ramsey said: "I want to win all the big things in the game. That's the goal, that's the targetto get as good as I can to make that a reality." That target shapes Ramsey’s approach to study, training and any future job decisions.

Ramsey insists the desire to compete has not faded since the final playing appearance in September 2025. Ramsey said: "It's not in my DNA to just put my feet up, Ramseyadded. I feel ready, but that all depends on the opportunity, doesn't it?" Ramsey expects that next step could arrive in various structures and age groups.

Ramsey outlined the broad range of roles that might appeal in the near future. Ramsey said: "So what that will look like will be different from different clubs, different age groups and all of that. For me, I feel ready to coach, to manage, to be inspiring to a group of players, and we'll see what comes up."

Ramsey’s preparations come as Arsenal highlight the importance of long-term planning, sharing images labelled "Forward focus" on social media. That message mirrors Ramsey’s mindset, with attention now firmly on coaching development and seizing an appropriate opportunity whenever a club is willing to trust Ramsey with a squad.
